McGill law profs strike
Unionized law professors at Montreal’s McGill University are now on strike. The “unlimited” strike officially began on April 24. A spokesperson with the Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) confirmed that 45 law professors have walked off the job.

Recently, I attended a couple of concerts, one at a small venue and the other at a major arena. I really loved the concerts. Live music is my favourite reason to go out for the evening, be it a local dive bar with an acoustic set or a superstar at a large venue. When the music is just right and the crowd is into it, I am transported to another place, and every stress and problem just melts away for that hour or two. I think it is fair to say that music is the sort of universal thing that moves everybody. Yet, lately, it seems I am the only one at these shows who is really in the moment because I am the only one not trying to video the entire show.

The death of Walter Gillespie | Sam Goldstein
Walter Gillespie, a New Brunswick man who spent more than a score of years in jail for a murder he did not commit, died last week, a few months after being exonerated for murder. Alas, the wheels of justice ground exceedingly slowly for Gillespie. As James Lockyer, who fought for Gillespie’s exoneration, told The Globe and Mail, “We’re just glad he managed to clear his name before he died.”

Common standards and shared values, consideration of others and responsible behaviour all contribute to a society that functions well. Some people will use tools, intended for good, in harmful ways — ways that disregard laws and regulations. The same applies to the use of AI, with individuals finding ways to impersonate, cheat, manipulate and deceive — anything you can think of to exploit others.
