Ron Ellis’s dream is now draft legislation for Ontario tribunals | Voy Stelmaszynski
The private Member’s bill introduced by MPP Ted Hsu in the Ontario Legislature on Monday, March 25, short-titled the Fewer Backlogs and Less Partisan Tribunals Act, proposes to protect the right of Ontarians to access expert, fair and effective justice at our provincial tribunals by passing legislation that enshrines and activates the fundamental principles of adjudicative independence, integrity and excellence. Many parts of this proposed legislation are based on an earlier draft by the late Ron Ellis, a founding member of Tribunal Watch and a giant in tribunal justice in Canada.

The principle of testamentary freedom provides that the testator’s wishes as to who should manage their estate should be respected except for the most extreme cases of malfeasance.

Ontario Court of Appeal overturns $1M damages award for breach of real estate sale agreement
The Ontario Court of Appeal has overturned an award of $1 million in relation to the breach of a sale agreement for a home, finding that a trial judge erred by awarding the buyer the difference between the contract price and the market value of the property at the time of trial.

Ottawa looks to reduce percentage of temporary residents to five per cent of population
Citing the need to “ramp things down,” in part to address Canada’s “affordability challenge” in such areas as housing, Immigration Minister Marc Miller says the federal government wants to stem the rapid growth in temporary residents by reducing their number over the next three years from 6.2 per cent of Canada’s population (2.5 million people in 2023) to five per cent.
