Law360 Canada ( September 23, 2021, 1:49 PM EDT) -- Appeal by Grabher from the dismissal of his application for a finding a decision of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles that recalled his personalized licence plate contravened his Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Charter) rights. For 27 years, the appellant, who was of Austrian-German heritage, was granted permission to display GRABHER as his government-issued licence plate. In 2016, the Registrar advised the appellant his personalized licence plate was being recalled as it could be misinterpreted as a socially unacceptable slogan. The hearing judge found the appellant’s Charter rights were not infringed and the impugned regulatory provisions were constitutional....
