Law360 Canada (February 24, 2026, 3:17 PM EST) -- The B.C. First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) has welcomed Gwendolyn Point to its Elders and Knowledge Keepers Council.

According to the announcement, Point joins five other council members supporting implementation of the B.C. First Nations Justice Strategy, signed in March 2020 to bring First Nations and B.C. into partnership to address poor justice system outcomes for First Nations in the province.

A member of Skowkale First Nation, Point has held a range of mentorship, education and cultural advisory roles, including Knowledge Keeper for the B.C. Assembly of First Nations Chiefs, chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley and vice-president of the First Nations Education Steering Committee.

“We are honoured to have Dr. Gwendolyn Point join the Elders and Knowledge Keepers Council,” said Chair Kory Wilson (Hemas Kla-Lee-Lee-Kla) in a statement. “Dr. Point’s vast cultural knowledge and lifelong commitment to education will serve our organization well as we continue this challenging but necessary work.”

“This work is about ensuring our voices, our ways of knowing and our cultural foundations continue to guide justice systems in a meaningful and lasting way,” said Point in the announcement.

The Elders and Knowledge Keepers Council was established in 2024 to guide the BCFNJC’s people and operations, grounded in Indigenous laws and protocols.
