David Paradiso appointed correctional investigator

Law360 Canada (September 30, 2026, 5:32 PM EDT) -- Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree has appointed David Paradiso as Correctional Investigator of Canada, effective Oct. 13, 2026.

According to the announcement, Paradiso has more than 35 years of experience in public sector oversight, legal analysis and independent investigations. His most recent role was serving as the deputy ombudsman with the Office of the British Columbia Ombudsman, a position he has held since 2014.

Paradiso previously worked with the Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario and spent six years as the director of investigations at the Office of the Correctional Investigator. He also served as the executive director and senior counsel with the RCMP External Review Committee for five years, where he reviewed employment grievances and appeals and twice served as interim chair.

Paradiso earned his law degree from Western University and was called to the bar in 1991.

According to Public Safety Canada, the Office of the Correctional Investigator is the independent ombuds for federally sentenced individuals and provides oversight of the Correctional Service of Canada. The correctional investigator examines complaints and correctional practices and makes recommendations aimed at ensuring federally sentenced individuals are treated fairly.
