Alberta Court of Appeal decision avoids ‘one size fits all’ sentencing

Gladue [1999] 1 S.C.R. 688 and then again in R. v. Ipeele 2012 SCC 13 that it was explained that the crime rate amongst First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples stemmed from their distinct experiences of systemic and overt discrimination under Canadian colonialism and its “Aboriginal Policy.”...
