I credited the Appeal Court panel for looking past the sentencing principles of denunciation and deterrence in handing down a just sentence and reducing the appellant truck driver’s sentence to five and a half years instead of the seven-year term to which he had been sentenced for a fatal collision that occurred just east of Kingston. The Ontario Court of Appeal was asked to determine if seven seconds of inattentiveness by a transport truck driver involved in the crash that killed four people warranted such lengthy imprisonment. ...
