Law360 Canada (May 14, 2026, 4:00 PM EDT) -- Three members of British Columbia’s legal community were recognized by the Canadian Bar Association, B.C. Branch (CBABC) on May 9 for their dedication to the profession and to supporting others.

According to the association, Kathryn McGoldrick, Arun Mohan and Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie received awards recognizing their contributions to the legal community and the administration of justice.

Harry Rankin, QC Pro Bono Award
Kathryn McGoldrick of Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP was recognized for her service with the Access Pro Bono Court of Appeal Program. Since 2021, she has volunteered as referral counsel, assisting self-represented litigants by reviewing appeal materials, explaining appellate procedures and addressing practical barriers. She has also provided full pro bono representation in appellate matters and serves as co-chair of the CBABC Appellate Advocacy Section.

Community Supporter Award
Arun Mohan, director of human rights at the University of British Columbia, was recognized for his work advancing equity, diversity and inclusion and for his volunteer service. His contributions include roles with Access Pro Bono, the Lawyers Assistance Program of B.C. and the Law Society of British Columbia, where he serves as a bencher.

President’s Medal
Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie was recognized for her contributions to the profession and the justice system. Appointed to the Provincial Court of British Columbia in 2012 and chief judge in 2018, she has led initiatives to improve access to justice, including the expansion of virtual court processes and early resolution programs.

“Each of these honourees has shaped the legal community in lasting ways, demonstrating our shared commitment to making justice accessible to all British Columbians, confronting discrimination and supporting the innovation and responsiveness of our courts,” said CBABC president Patricia Blair in a statement.
