LSO honours 6 legal leaders with doctor of laws degrees

Law360 Canada (June 24, 2026, 1:42 PM EDT) -- The Law Society of Ontario (LSO) awarded honorary doctor of laws (LLD) degrees to six individuals at its June call to the bar ceremonies.

According to the LSO, the recipients were recognized for their contributions to the legal profession, the rule of law and the cause of justice.

The honourees are:

  • Justice Robert Beaudoin, recognized for his work in public service, court reform and access to justice
  • Justice Lynne Leitch, the longest-serving member of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice
  • Lisa A. Borsook, for her work advancing women in the legal profession
  • Justice Geoffrey B. Morawetz, for his contributions to access to justice and efficiency in the legal system
  • Justice Mahmud Jamal of the Supreme Court of Canada, for his work in public service, pro bono work and legal education
  • Terry Burgoyne, for his mentorship and advocacy, particularly of young lawyers from the LGBTQ+ community
