Law360 Canada ( January 23, 2023, 8:56 AM EST) -- Claim for damages for personal injury by Vasan. Vasan was early in his career as an RCMP officer when he was rear-ended on his way home from work. Vasan suffered injuries to his neck and back. He developed eye pain and headaches that interfered with his computer use which was a key part of his job. Vasan became depressed when he did not recover as quickly as he had hoped he would. Liability for the accident was admitted by the defendant. The defendant admitted that the accident had a significant impact on Vasan’s vocational and social functioning and that Vasan continued to have residual deficits affecting his work and home life. The only issue to be decided was the appropriate award of damages. The defendant acknowledged that Vasan was entitled to be compensated but disagreed with the amount of damages he proposed. As of the trial, Vasan continued to complain of neck and back pain that restricted his usual activities....
