Legal Aid CEO Charlene Moore joins N.S. Supreme Court

Law360 Canada (July 7, 2026, 3:16 PM EDT) -- The federal government has appointed
Charlene J. Moore as a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (Family Division) in Sydney.
According to the Department of Justice, Justice Moore earned her law degree from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1999.
She began her career with Nova Scotia Legal Aid (NSLA), where she practised family and social justice law for 18 years, including child protection, tenancy and disability matters. Since 2022, she has served as chief executive officer of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission.
Moore has also advanced equity by supporting Indigenous and African Nova Scotian clients, including by opening NSLA’s first office in an Indigenous community in partnership with Sipekne'katik First Nation.
She was named King’s Counsel in 2019 and has received the Queen Elizabeth II Gold and Platinum Jubilee Medals.
She replaces Justice Lee Anne MacLeod-Archer (Sydney), who resigned effective May 31, 2025.
