B.C. appoints 3 provincial court judges

Law360 Canada (October 8, 2026, 4:28 PM EDT) -- British Columbia Chief Judge Melissa Gillespie has announced the appointment of Matthew Turnell, Manpreet Mand and David Jenkins as provincial court judges.

According to the province, Turnell will be sworn in Oct. 23 and assigned to the Vancouver Island region, with chambers in Campbell River. He is currently general counsel with the federal Department of Justice’s Taxation Services Division in Vancouver. Turnell is also a volunteer firefighter and regularly contributes to continuing legal education programs.

Mand will be sworn in Oct. 26 and assigned to the Fraser region, with chambers in Surrey. She has practised family law in the Fraser Valley for many years and has been involved in continuing legal education and volunteer work with the Canadian Bar Association’s B.C. branch and the University of British Columbia.

Jenkins will be sworn in Oct. 29 and assigned to the Northern region, with chambers in Prince George. Born and raised in Prince George, he earned his law degree from the University of Alberta before returning to the community to practise, primarily in criminal law.
