Law360 Canada (February 2, 2026, 2:57 PM EST) -- British Columbia Attorney General Niki Sharma is marking Access to Justice Week by reaffirming the province’s commitment to building a justice system that is “responsive, inclusive and accessible.”

The theme of this year’s Access to Justice Week is “What works, what doesn’t, and how do we know?” Throughout the week, participants will explore how research, practice and innovation are coming together to better understand the outcomes that the legal system creates and to identify models that can reach those most at the margins.

Sharma said that theme “speaks to the importance of a system that evolves, listens and learns.”

“Every year, Access to Justice Week provides an opportunity to reflect on how we can continue building a justice system that serves everyone fairly and equally in British Columbia,” she said in a statement. “As we mark [the week], we reaffirm our commitment to listening to diverse voices and building a justice system that is responsive, inclusive and accessible for everyone in British Columbia.”

B.C.’s government is committed to hearing people’s experiences and acting, said Sharma. She noted the province has acted in areas like the treatment of victims and survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence in the legal system, sharing of intimate images without consent and reforming family law.

“But we know there is much more to do to create better services for the people who rely on them,” she said.

Access to Justice Week runs from Feb. 2 to 6.
