Digital justice: The case for Caselines

By Martine Garland ( June 9, 2022, 8:58 AM EDT) -- On April 19, 2022, the Ontario court’s Guidelines to Determine Mode of Proceeding in Civil took effect, setting the stage for the way forward in our partly virtual, partly in-person litigation world. But what we now know from the court is that Caselines (a user-friendly cloud-based document sharing and storage e-hearing platform for remote and in-person court proceedings) is here to stay, and will be used for arguing motions, applications, some appeals and any other hearings that happen virtually. We can also expect that in-person trials will become increasingly more electronic compared to our previous paper filled process, and that even in-person hearings and trials may use Caselines....
